I've always felt that the 90s were fashion's low point

in really beautiful things

We had grunge without the cool (ugly)

and

minimalism without the silhouette or edge (boring)

To be fair, these styles then evolved into personalities

hipster, i.e. Williamsburg (super cool),

off duty model rocker, i.e. Eric Wasson (also super cool),

perfectly dressed NY girl, i.e. Serena and Blair (gorgeous and cool)
